2013 Citizen Volunteer of the Year Award

Sabrina Best presented Ted with the award, praising his tireless efforts on behalf of youth sports and community programs in South Portland.  She noted that Ted has volunteered for numerous programs over the years for the South Portland Recreation Department as a coach for his son’s basketball teams, assisting with the North Pole Callings, and developing the communities Youth Lacrosse program. Ted has spent countless hours coaching hundreds of boys through the lacrosse program, helping it grow into one of the most popular activities in the community. Even after being diagnosed with cancer, Ted didn’t skip a beat, he continuing to coach a group of HS Boys Lacrosse Players this past Fall as they competed in a tournament in Massachusetts.  Said Sabrina, “Ted is not only a great person, but a great role model. A dedicated family man, passionate coach, helpful friend, and an inspiration to all!”
